Alaina Stocker - artist

My art practice is inspired by memento mori, Latin for “remember that you will die." I am fascinated by food, bones, meat, flowers, and other temporary things. In this world the body often feels like a burden, with pain, needs, domesticity, and vulnerability being treated as weaknesses. With my work I hope to relate to others who reside in human bodies by pointing out that, no matter what our differences, we all share the same uncanny experience of being made of meat and bones.
